WHY THESE SONGS

Thank you to my Lord and Savior for saving me. Thank you for the unexpected and gracious opportunity to assemble this project. I'm overwhelmed by the gift and those You have used to make it happen. Thank you for their faithfulness, especially my good friend and encourager, Dr. Glen Ginter. May this album honor their commitment and point people toward You.

Initially, deciding which songs would be best for the album was quite difficult. This opportunity was too big to choose just any of the many songs I grew up singing. Each song needed to convey the journey I have been on these last several years. After a few months of spending time with the Lord in worship and prayer, I knew exactly which songs to choose. And through the entire process of creating this album, God was teaching me to trust and surrender. This is truly an abbreviation of my journey and here is why I chose each song for this project.

I SAW THE LIGHT

This song struck a cord in me regarding my own faith walk. I grew up in a Christian home and ”played” the part for many years. There were many dark days, but God delivered me from pain and bondage. He opened my eyes and as the title of this tune states, I Saw The Light. I truly saw the light of Jesus’ love, mercy, acceptance and deliverance. Thank you Lord for bringing me into a life that prayerfully brings You glory and honor. Not a perfect life but one that is genuine

“Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.” ACTS 9:18

SOMETIMES IT TAKES A MOUNTAIN

In my life, I have faced many obstacles. So often I have prayed for God to eliminate them. Some were removed but most of the time He used each one to get my attention and focus me on Him and not on the problem or wallow in my own pity. Every time the Lord brought me through. In life we will have mountains to face, but God…

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” ROMANS 5:3-5

LIVING HOPE

The second verse of this song says it all and I pray will empower others that hear this Truth:

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me

I could sing that verse over and over!

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” 1 PETER 1:3

GIVE ME FAITH

Faith, trust and surrender definitely go together. I don’t know that you can have one without the other. For me, my faith didn’t mean a whole lot until I learned to trust and surrender. This was not on my original list of tunes but I believe God put this song in front of me to remind me that I may be weak but His Spirit is strong in me and He will never fail me.

“What do you mean, ‘If I can?’ Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes.’ The father instantly cried out, ‘I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief.’” MARK 9:23-24

I SURRENDER ALL

I grew up singing this song but it has only been in the last few years that I began to realize the impact of these lyrics. Through all of the tough times in life God has been trying to teach me to surrender. Not to give up on life but to give up trying to do it my way and follow Him. Unfortunately, most of the time I would not listen. Thankfully He has not given up on me and continues to pursue me. As my tough shell of pride and lack of trust began to crack, Christ showed me what true surrender will do. It is actually strengthening my walk and now I pray He uses me to point others to Him. Have I arrived? Absolutely not. None of us will until we are in Heaven with Him.

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.” JAMES 4:10

HOW GREAT THOU ART /
HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW

How Great Thou Art has a special meaning to me because this was my dad’s favorite hymn and was sung at his funeral. This song is a great anthem of worship to our Heavenly Father and His overwhelming works. When I sing this song, I am prompted to look toward all He has done, and how small I am, but if He even keeps His eye on the smallest of birds He is watching over me.

“Let all that I am praise the Lord. O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty.” PSALM 104:1
